Cronton Scholar is Batting Her Way to the Top!
Cronton Sixth Form College scholarship student, Robyn Cosgrove, is celebrating after being named Young Sports Person of the Year at the Halton Sports Awards 2016.
At the annual sporting celebration, held at Select Security Stadium, Robyn was recognised for her outstanding achievements in Table Tennis and for the support and training she provides to younger children in the sport.
This is a fantastic accolade for Robyn who has enjoyed success in regional, national and international competitions. The former Wade Deacon High School student commented, “It all started when coaches from Halton Table Tennis Club came into my Primary School and invited anyone who was interested to have a go at the club. I used to play tennis so I thought it was something new to try. I found I really enjoyed it and was soon training four times a week and competing for the club.”
The nomination for the award was made by Karen Tonge MBE, Club Leader at Halton Table Tennis Club and was a complete surprise for Robyn. She explained, “The first I heard about the award was when I received an email inviting me to the Awards Dinner. I didn’t have a clue about it before then but I was delighted that Karen had put me forward. I was really nervous leading up to the event as I wasn’t sure who else had been nominated or what I would have to say. It was an even bigger shock when I won – my Mum and Dad were delighted!”
Robyn has her sights firmly set on a bright future in the sport. “I am studying PE at A level at Cronton Sixth Form and have been awarded a Sports Scholarship by the college. My goal now is to represent Team GB in the 2028 Olympics.”
