Double sporting success for Cronton teams
Cronton football and rugby teams have been celebrating a double win on Wednesday in front of a jubilant home crowd which will lead both teams closer to cup success.
The Cronton male rugby team defeated Priestly College 18-12 in the North West Regional Cup semi-final with the help of try scorers Tom Edge, Nathan Lyon, Gaz Whitfield and Adam Kirby and will now play in the final in two weeks’ time.
Mark Brennan, coach of the Cronton Male Rugby Team said, “This game was a ‘tactical master class’ The lads have worked really hard all year and they have their reward in reaching the final, it’s a great achievement and the players are looking forward to it”.
The male football team also joined in with the success after beating St John Rigby 5-2 in the fourth round of the National Cup on the same afternoon with a hat trick from Max Callan and another great two goals from Jamie White and Tom Freeman.
Iain Douglas, Cronton Male Football Team coach said, “Even the extreme weather conditions didn’t stop the team from producing a technical performance worthy of winning the game and progressing further in the National Cup.
“Battles were won in key areas against a side who have demonstrated their quality, having won previous Cup competitions. I am very proud of the way the lads conducted themselves, and look forward to progressing further in the competition.”
Both teams are now focusing on their next games and are hoping to bring the cup back to Cronton.
