Centre of Excellence Captivates with Phantom of the Opera in Concert
Students at Cronton Sixth Form College thrilled the audience with a special performance of ‘The Phantom of the Opera in Concert’ at St Luke’s Church.
The performance was in celebration of the show’s 30 years at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London and also helped to raise money for continued restoration of the church.
The production that once starred Zoe Curlett, now patron for the Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts, is the most successful theatrical event in history. Past students returned to join current students for a memorable night that saw Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece light up St Luke’s Church.
The 13th Century church was the ideal venue for the sold out evening, which closed with Zoe Curlett singing the title song of the musical’s sequel, Love Never Dies.
Mayor of Halton, Councillor Ellen Cargill was in attendance for the show and commented, “The talent portrayed was truly amazing. Young students showing a maturity beyond their years, it was so professionally done.”
Parishioner at St Luke’s Church, Mrs Alma Marshall said, “The whole night brought tears to my eyes and made hairs stand on end!”
Sue Smither, lay reader at St Luke’s Church said, “St Luke’s Church is still buzzing. The students and technicians gave us a production worthy of any West End stage. They all played their part to bring us a truly memorable evening.”
The Centre of Excellence, which has once again been asked to perform at the New Mayor’s Installation in May, will be setting off on its summer tour of venues including the Select Security Stadium, The Centre Stage Theatre, and a performance at St Luke’s, before opening its final show of the year, Miss Saigon on Wednesday 29th June until 1st July.
