World Championship Success for Talented Student
Competitive Cronton Sixth Form student Kathryn Schofield is honoured to have represented Great Britain at the recent Pontevedra ITU Duathlon World Championships and was thrilled to have placed 12th at the event.
Kathryn, previously from St. Chads Catholic and Church of England High School has endured long hours of training to prepare for the difficult female 16-19 Duathlon in Spain. Working with her swimming, cycling and triathlon clubs Kathryn sets a goal of around 10 hours of training per week whilst keeping on top of her College work on her Animal Management course at Cronton.
Six days prior to the World Championship event, Kathryn headed over to Spain to train on the circuit and complete the final stages of her training plan. After a 5k run, a 20k bike and a 2.5k run, the hard work paid off for the Level 3 Animal Management student who finished with an impressive 12th place in an outstanding time of 1 hour and 20 minutes.
The 17-year-old has already completed a host of events including Triathlons in Liverpool and Leeds, but most notably placed 7th in the 2018 Ibiza European Championships. She will now turn her focus to the 2020 World Championship qualifications which take place in Nottingham next month.
Kathryn commented on her achievement, “Representing Great Britain at these major competitions has been an incredible experience for me. It has been tough at times balancing training alongside my studies at Cronton, but I have had lots of support from everyone and I am looking forward to competing in my next triathlon in June.”
