International Rugby League Success for Cronton Sixth Form Students
Cronton students are celebrating selection for the England Students Women’s squad, with Darcy Stott and Katie Mottershead alongside previous Cronton Sports Scholar Amy Bennett competing against some of England’s top talents to be named in the 2022 squad.
Current Cronton students Katie and Darcy from St Helens Women and Amy, who is now studying Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Leeds and plays club rugby with Wakefield Trinity Ladies, were all part of the Centre of Sporting Excellence at Cronton, representing the college in the successful college women’s rugby teams.
Level 3 Sport student Katie said,” When I found out I was in the squad, I was shocked and excited for the new challenge. I feel really proud that I’m going to represent my country, and I can’t wait to play at a higher level.”
Foundation Degree in Sport Coaching and PE student Darcy said, “I am really proud of myself for making the squad, and I’m excited about this next adventure. I can’t wait to make new friends and to play alongside some of the UK most talented rugby players.”
Faye Gaskin, Course Team Leader at Cronton, said, “The selection into the England Students programme is a great achievement for all three students, one which the college is extremely proud of. The hard work, dedication, and commitment they have shown to the sport, as well as their studies, is exceptional. I wish them all the best of luck with their fixtures and look forward to watching them play.”
