What is this course about?
The course offers students the opportunity to study a wide range of Art and Design subjects. It is ideal for those aiming to progress to higher education and careers in the art and design industries but have not settled on a specialism. The course enables the most able students to progress to HE without the need for the additional Foundation year.
You will be taught by a range of experienced staff, many of who are practicing artists. Field trips and visits to exhibitions are organised throughout the course to help inspire you and develop a thorough knowledge of art and design enabling you to choose a specialist pathway for the second year of the course. The course units are delivered through assignment briefs and the completion of practical project work. Your work is assessed by your tutors and the grades awarded are externally verified by the exam board.

Entry requirements:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 9 – 3 including a Grade 3 in English Language, a Grade 3 in Maths and a grade 9 – 3 in an Art and Design related subject. You will also need to submit a portfolio of your work.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continuous. You will be marked on both practical and written project work which will provide the evidence on which your grades will be based. There is no formal exam at the end of the course. Your work will be marked by professionals using a range of assessment methods. Most of the work is project based therefore you will be working to a wide range of assignment briefs. You will be encouraged to work independently using your own initiative and finding your own solutions.
What will this course lead on to?
Successful completion of this course will enable students to progress to one of the Cronton School of Art Level 3 Extended Diploma Art & Design pathways, which include Fashion, Graphic Design and General Art and Design.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
You will be expected to provide some of your own art materials and some equipment. Visits to Museums, Galleries, and Exhibitions may involve a charge.
