A Cronton A level student is waiting to hear if she has successfully gained a place in a top American university after experiencing life as an American undergraduate in the summer.
Emma Humphries, previously from Wade Deacon High School fought off tough competition to be selected for the Sutton Trust US Scheme after 3700 people originally applied to take part. She was 1 of 150 sixth form students who headed over to New Haven, Connecticut to the Ivy League, Yale University for a week in the summer.
After flying into JFK airport in New York, Emma had the fantastic opportunity to spend a few days at Yale University and also visit other Ivy League universities including, Harvard, Princeton and Columbia gaining an insight into the American university system and application process.
Emma said, “When I first heard I had been accepted on the programme I was shocked because I knew how many people had applied. I know how lucky I am to have this opportunity and the trip was an amazing experience. I know I want to study in the US and as part of the scheme I now have a mentor to help me during the application process. It is very different to the UK system and now I have a great head start.”
