Dance Students Inspired at Netherlands Dance Theatre
A Level Dance students had the wonderful experience of travelling to the Netherlands to spend time with one of the world’s most famous modern dance companies, the
Netherlands Dance Theatre.
Cronton’s Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts has strong links with The Hague based theatre company, meaning students can benefit from visits to the company to enhance their knowledge and understanding of how dance companies work at a professional level.
During this visit, students observed a company ballet class and enjoyed a backstage tour of the Lucent Theatre. They also took part in a workshop taught by company tutor Saskia Bosman, and ended the day with a performance by Netherlands Dance Theatre 2.
A Level dance tutor at Cronton, Sharon Graham, explained “This is the fourth time I have been fortunate to visit the company with our A Level dancers and once again it was a truly inspiring experience. The standard of dance on display is breath-taking and it is an invaluable opportunity for students to spend time with a company of such importance within the dance world. We are already looking forward to our next visit.”
Saskia Bosman, from the Netherlands Theatre Company, contacted the college afterwards to say “It was really nice to meet your students and I wish them a lot of inspiration and creativity.”
The students also enjoyed the sights of Amsterdam on a river cruise and visited the Anne Frank House. The students are now building on the experience back in college by preparing for upcoming productions.
A Level dance student Caitlyn Dignam, formerly of St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Centre for Learning, said “It was very inspiring to see the dancers at Netherlands Dance Theatre as they were all extremely talented. I also enjoyed seeing the sights of Amsterdam by cruise and visiting the Anne Frank House.”
