Please note all of our A Level subjects must be studied as part of a full time A Level programme. You will choose 3 A level subjects to study over two years.
What is this course about?
You will be given the opportunity to develop your ability to appreciate the visual world and to respond in a personal and creative way. You will embrace all aspects of the Fine Art disciplines: Painting and Drawing; Printmaking; Sculpture; Alternative Media.

The Art and Design department has a team of motivated teachers who are highly trained with diverse specialisms allowing you to experience the broadest range of creative techniques possible and have a proven track record in securing student success. The course is run in a spacious, purpose built, open plan art studio. This creates a supportive, safe and innovative environment to work in.
Entry requirements:
A minimum of 3 x Grade 5’s and 2 x Grade 4’s at GCSE including a Grade 5 in English Language and a Grade 5 in Maths. One of your Grade 5’s must be in an Art related subject.
Every student will also be invited to a Creative Skills and Portfolio Event where you will need to submit an appropriate portfolio. You will receive more information about this event at your college interview.
What can I Progress onto?
Fine Art students usually progress to an Art & Design Level 3/4 BTEC Diploma Foundation Studies or three-year degree course in specialist areas such as: Fine Art, Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Game Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Animation, Textiles, Fashion, Furniture Design and many more.
Enrichment Opportunities
A Level Fine Art Students who want to study outside standard lesson times are always welcome in the art rooms. The Art and Design department has a library and quiet area for drop-in work sessions. Tutors are able to advise and support students in exploring Textiles, Photography and Digital practice.
How will I be assessed?
There will be specified deadlines for components and periodic marking of work. Each component is marked according to the specification’s assessment objectives.
What will I learn on this course?
You will learn how to visually record observations and experiences, experiment with a diverse range of media, analyse and critically evaluate the work of established artists and produce refined aesthetically pleasing artwork.
Are there any costs associated with this course?
There is a subject specific shopping list of materials that you will need to purchase. You will also contribute to any trip costs.
