Level 3 BTEC in Business Studies students from Cronton Sixth Form experienced an enjoyable and educational three day residential to Cornwall as part of their studies.
During the first day, the group visited the outdoor Minack Theatre to see the incredible site itself which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and watch a modern day take on the Shakespeare play ‘As You Like It’.
During day two, students were treated to a group surf lesson on the beach followed by a tour of Skinner’s Brewery. During the tour, students learned about the production, operations and marketing of the popular brewery and also got to sample some soft drinks. A valuable talk with the Chair of Cornwall’s Charted Institute of Marketing also took place, where the students gained information which will be used in BTEC units of study next year.
On the third day, the group visited the Eden Project where they had the opportunity to explore the educational areas, extensive gardens, and the impressive biomes which house thousands of plant species. The students then took part in an ‘Enterprise Challenge’ which was delivered by the Eden Project education team. The group were tested on their business acumen and enterprise skills, with prizes for the winning team.
College lecturer Bryan Doyle, who accompanied the students, said: “It was a privilege to take 15 of our enthusiastic students down to Cornwall for the 3 day residential. All in attendance were inspired by the stunning setting of the Minack Theatre and we were treated to a fantastic show and beautiful sunset over the sea. Students were keen to get into the water the following day and I’m sure we have some budding young surf champions among us after witnessing some brilliant skills on the board! I was impressed with the level of engagement that they showed when touring the Skinners Brewery site in Truro.
“Students were able to meet with the marketing team at Skinners and listen to a fantastic presentation about their recent re-branding strategies. When we visited the incredible Eden Project students were set an enterprise challenge where they had to develop a new attraction for the site. Some of their ideas were simply fantastic. Our students conducted themselves extremely well during all of the activities we had arranged for them. Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable 3 days which our students got a lot out of. I’m already looking forward to next year’s trip!”
