Talented New Scholars Welcomed at Cronton
Ten new students at Cronton Sixth Form College have enjoyed a wonderful start to their studies after each receiving a prestigious scholarship worth up to £2000.
The outstanding students were selected for scholarships in the college’s three Centre of Excellence subject areas; Science and Maths, Performing Arts and Sport after impressing during a series of interviews which took place earlier this year. This year the successful students are:
- Meghan Arnell, from The Belvedere Academy (Science and Maths)
- Megan Ashton, from Wade Deacon High School (Science and Maths)
- Jemma Brocklehurst, from Great Sankey High School (Sport)
- Katherine Cheshire, from De La Salle High School (Sport)
- Lauren Greer, from Wade Deacon High School (Science and Maths)
- Daniel Ireland, from Ormiston Bollingbroke Academy (Performing Arts)
- Lucy McDiarmid, from Wade Deacon High School (Performing Arts)
- Amy Redman, Wade Deacon High School (Sport)
- Daniel Roberts, Halewood Academy (Science and Maths)
- Joshua Rogers, Wade Deacon High School (Performing Arts)
The students were presented with their scholarship cheques at college by Principal Mary Murphy. The conscientious students have big plans to use the money to improve their studies.
Megan Ashton, from Widnes, commented “I feel very proud and honoured to have received a scholarship at Cronton. I will be using the money to help with my studies and progressing to university in the future.”
Daniel Ireland, from Runcorn, said “I felt very excited when I was told I would be receiving a scholarship. I will use the money to help pay for my tuition at the Royal Northern College of Music, where I currently study on Saturdays.”
Mary Murphy commented “Congratulations to all of our well deserving scholarship students this year. This will help to support the students and provide financial assistance towards the costs of fulfilling their full potential. Some of our previous scholars have used the money for purchasing equipment, attending competitions, paying for specialist coaching or tuition and studying towards extension awards.”
Students fulfilling certain criteria can apply for scholarships as part of the college application process and successful students are awarded financial rewards over their two years of study. We look forward to meeting next year’s potential scholars at their college interviews over the next few months.”
