Music and passion are always in fashion at Cronton Sixth Form
The Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts at Cronton Sixth Form College wowed audiences with their first production of the academic year, Copacabana.
Written by musician Barry Manilow and based on the song of the same name, the spectacular show starred talented students Ritchie Redmond as Stephen / Tony Forte, Emma Passey as Samantha / Lola La Mar, Gabrielle Stanfield as Gladys Murphy, Thomas Ray as Sam Silver, Chloe Astre as Conchita Alvarez and Reuben Austin as Rico Castelli.
The show ran on the 25th, 26th and 27th of November and tickets were completely sold out. A daytime matinée performance also took place on the 26th to an audience of pupils from Wade Deacon High School.
Feedback for the production has been overwhelming. One audience member attending the opening night commented, “I was fortunate to see Wednesday’s production; fantastic, clear dialogue and lively music. After being lucky enough to see several productions in the West End, I left the hall with the same sense of wellbeing! Congratulations to all involved.”
Matt Plant, Head of the Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts, said “This was a real departure for us and hugely inspired by our backstage trip at the Moulin Rouge earlier this year. We wanted to do something that would appeal to many different members of our audience and Barry Manilow certainly seems to get people up and about!
Most of all it enabled us to use our wonderful dancers and this, together with our hard working and hugely committed students, became our biggest success to date. We now look forward to our future projects including our spectacular concert at St Luke’s Church on 31st March.”
