The Show Will Go On at the Cronton Playhouse Theatre

The Cronton Playhouse theatre at Cronton Sixth Form College will celebrate a long-awaited relaunch with a set of stunning live performances at the professional 320-seat venue after an 18-month hiatus due to the Covid-19 restrictions, giving the local community the opportunity to experience live theatre as well as watch the stars of the future.

The Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts will return with their two-night performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard, the Professional Dance Programme will perform their version of A Christmas Carol during the festive period, the Professional Music Programme will rock the Playhouse with Making History and Get Up, Stand Up!, and the Professional Theatre Programme will be performing their take on Shakespeare’s classic Macbeth and an original performance in Doom Success.

Ben Musa, Artistic Director for the Professional Dance Programme, said, “Our return to live theatre has been welcomed across the board by everyone involved. For the past 18 months, we have been heartbroken that we haven’t been able to do what we do best, which is perform for an audience and feel the atmosphere of show night. What was even more upsetting was having such a fantastic venue in the Cronton Playhouse to call our own and our students not being able to perform in such a wonderful space.

“We are so excited about getting back on the stage and we can’t wait to be joined by an audience this time.”

Matt Plant, Creative Director of the Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts, added, “It’s been a strange time and we have learned a great deal about streaming techniques due to the pandemic. Our proudest moment came with the complete production of Les Misérables which we were able to stream online in July. The commitment and extraordinary strength of our students in the face of such adversity was truly inspiring. Having said all that, it will be something else to return to the Playhouse and to a live audience and both staff and students are extremely excited about it.”

Upcoming Performances at the Cronton Playhouse:

    • Making History (Professional Music Programme): Thursday 18th November 2021, 7:30PM
    • Sunset Boulevard (Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts): Wednesday 1st & Thursday 2nd December 2021, 7:30PM
