Sporting Stars of Tomorrow Training at Cronton
The Centre of Sporting Excellence at Cronton Sixth Form is helping to train the sports stars of tomorrow with an exclusive programme set to develop their sporting potential as well as achieve academic success.
Amongst the new students to join this year are Katie Dinsdale, Adam Penketh, Rebecca Caslin, and Taylor Goodall.
Taylor, previously from The Grange School has just won a gold medal the British Taekwondo championships in Manchester and is now training to represent England in the Taekwondo Commonwealth Games this November.
Katie, previously from Tower College competes nationally as a track runner; she recently competed in the Sainsbury’s School Games and came 5th in the 200m race.
Adam has recently progressed from the Level 2 Sports Diploma to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport at Cronton Sixth Form College. This year he won a gold medal and two silver medals whilst representing England at the World Kickboxing Championships in Italy.
All of the students currently at the Centre of Sporting Excellence are also studying an A level or level 3 vocational programme and are supported to balance their academic qualifications with training in order to maximise their potential in both.
Ben Barton, Head of the Centre of Sporting Excellence at Cronton Sixth Form said, “It is a fabulous achievement for the students on this programme to compete in their sport at such an elite level as well as achieving their best in the classroom. All of the students benefit from extra training and our highly experienced tutors who themselves have been sporting professionals, so they understand the challenges these students face.”
