Fourteen students from the Centre of Excellence in Maths and Science at Cronton Sixth Form College were celebrating last week as they were awarded their certificates from the 2012 UK Maths Challenge.
The students sat a ninety minute exam earlier this year with over 60,000 A level maths students from across Great Britain and countries as far away as China, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. They have just been informed of the fantastic results they have achieved.
Andrew Bullock previously from Halewood Centre for Learning, was amongst the top 7% and received the Gold Award. Jack Austin from Saints Peter and Paul, Callum Stephens from Penketh High and Rebecca Preston from Wade Deacon High School were all awarded the Silver Award and the Bronze Awards went to Liam Sheeran, Sam Ellis, Robert Hoos and Kate Woodcock previously from Wade Deacon, Ryan Thomson, from St Edmund Arrowsmith, Maria Bikova, from Latvia, Kieran OConnor and Elliot Bryce from Saints Peter and Paul, Barnaby Byrom from the Grange, and Jinyuan Cai previously from The Bankfield School.
Phil Taylor, Head of the Centre of Excellence in Maths and Science at Cronton said, “This is a wonderful achievement for the students.
“Given that all of the candidates are good A Level mathematicians, expected to achieve an A or B in their A level exam, the results this year are very impressive and I am extremely proud of the students success.”
