What is the course about?
During this level 2 course, you will investigate climate, sustainability, and environmental practices, providing you with a clear understanding of how people can reduce their carbon footprints whilst travelling for business or leisure, workplace practices, and home environments. Also, how people can make a positive change to their lifestyle and how that will have an impact on a local, regional, national, and global scale.
This course focuses on current and growing environmental issues and will provide you with a greater understanding of the industry. There is also a focus on the practical application of important industry skills that are required to build a thriving sustainable economy, creating substantial employment growth within the sector on a global scale to create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly planet. Learners will benefit from a large selection of industry-based employees visiting the college to speak to students and engage them in related activities. Students will have the opportunity to develop practical skill sets, including -Sailing, Motorboat, Climbing/Abseiling, Land/Sea Navigation, On/Offshore Emergency Communication Procedure, Risk Assessing, Wildlife Preservation/Conservation Practices, and Operational Monitoring Skills)
Learners will take part in a three-day expedition up in the Lake District, being assessed in field-based activities that are directly linked to the climate, sustainability, and environmental sectors. Learners will have the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, developing key skills including – map reading and compass work, camp craft, teamwork and leadership, as well as improving communication skills and fitness levels.
Students will experience a wide variety of volunteering opportunities and benefit from our invaluable links with local and national organizations in the sector. Visits from guest speakers will enhance learning, promoting course progression and future career opportunities.

It is designed to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to enter careers such as Environmental Strategy, Flood Management, Climate Change & Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, Protected Sites, Offshore Oil Rigs & Wind Farms, Resource Management, Carbon & Climate Impact, Risk Consultation, Town Planning, Politics or Non-Profit Organizations.
You will study a range of subjects, both theoretical and practical and be assessed through methods such as professional discussions, group presentations, written reports, and practical observations. You will attend a weeklong work placement which may include a residential stay. During your course, you need to participate in practical activities including maritime, environmental & conservation including camping and mountaineering. We will also help you to develop your fitness levels with regular participation in fitness activities, both in and out of college. The College has excellent links with local services and organize informative trips and visiting guest speakers. You will have a 1.5-hour gym session where you can develop your level of fitness in preparation for joining the sector you desire to join
What will my timetable look like?
You will be in college for 3 days a week and have a study day. During that time you will spend 3 hours in English GCSE and 3 hours in Math GCSE unless you have already passed them. You will also have a 1 hour ASPIRE session with your Personal Tutor who will support you to develop the skills to prepare you for the world of work. They will also have 1:1 time slots to help you set goals on your individual learning plan and keep you on target to exceed your minimum target grade.
Entry requirements:
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades 9 – 3 including a Grade 3 in English Language and a Grade 2 in Maths.
Do I need to buy any equipment or kit?
You will need a stationary, a memory stick and a folder & course programme kit (Details will be given out at enrolment). You will also need to ensure you have kit for your practical units. You will need a waterproof jacket, walking boots, and a standard-size rucksack You may also wish to purchase Level 2 Climate Change, Sustainability & Environment Resources
What will this course lead on to?
Most students progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science or L3 Extended Diploma in Uniformed Protective Services, but some students go directly into one of the sectors.
