Inspirational College Events Raise £1,528 for Macmillan Cancer Support
Staff and students at Riverside College and Cronton Sixth Form came together to raise an incredible total of £1,528 for Macmillan Cancer Support with a series of fundraising events, highlighted by an inspirational ‘Brave the Shave’ fundraiser.
Matt McCormick from the College Finance Department took the amazing step of ‘Braving the Shave’ and shaving his head to raise money for the wonderful cause. Colleagues, friends and family watched virtually to support Matt and a fantastic total of £883 was raised with his actions.
Matt commented, “I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved with my Brave the Shave fundraiser. I’m absolutely blown away with the support and again reminded of why I love this college so much; even in a time like this everyone will still come together for a great cause.”
Another incredible fundraiser was by Melissa Turk from the Schools Liaison and Marketing Team who completed a 10k run at Tatton Park to raise money for the charity. Running alongside her local netball team members, together they raised a fabulous £250 for Macmillan.
The Colleges also hosted a successful Virtual Coffee Morning, with both staff and students joining each other via Zoom calls for coffee and cake. Together they raised £327 in donations during the coffee morning.
A further £68 was also made in cash donations from staff and students which brought the total to an incredible £1,528.
Natalie Patten, College CHEER Coordinator, said, “Thank you so much to everyone who took part in raising such a massive amount for Macmillan Cancer Support. We had a fantastic effort from staff who baked cakes for their bubble groups, making our Virtual Coffee Morning a great success. Special thanks go to Melissa Turk for her Tatton 10k achievement and of course to Matt McCormick, who ‘Braved the Shave’ and raised over £880!
Thanks once again to everyone who donated and for making this event such a success under exceptional circumstances, we have done ourselves proud and Riverside and Cronton have surpassed all expectations once again!”
