Why study this course at Cronton Sixth Form?
This course is a great first step to a career in public services or the sport and leisure industry. The course provides a solid foundation of knowledge of Public Services and Sport. You will develop relevant skills and knowledge through a series of practical and theory units.
Our tutors have a wealth of experience and will fully support your progress on the course. In addition to your main qualification, you will also have the opportunity to access the college enrichment programme. After completing this course students can progress onto a level 2 course in either Public Services or Sport.
What will I study?
Students will cover a broad range of subjects across the sector of Public Services industries such as Emergency Services, Armed Services, Local Authority and Custodial Services, as well as Voluntary and Charitable Organisations. Learners will benefit from a large selection of Industry based employees coming to visit the college to speak to students and engage them in related activities. Learners will participate in a variety of adventurous activities including walking in Wales, Yorkshire and Cheshire, Mountain Biking, Paddle Boarding and Indoor Climbing. Students will experience a wide variety of volunteering opportunities and benefit from our invaluable links with local and national public services. Visits from guest speakers will enhance their learning and future career opportunities.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed throughout the year by completing coursework, role plays, professional discussions and practical assessments.
Entry Requirements
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grades 9 – 2 including a Grade 2 in English Language.
Can I study this course if I have not taken it at GCSE?
Yes, as this course is not an option to study at GCSE.
Enrichment Opportunities
Students studying Public Services at Cronton had the opportunity to go on the public service trip to Krakow, sport trip to Barcelona and across college Skiing trip, these experiences have provided them with the opportunity to travel, complete work experience, take in different cultures, grow on a personal level and make lifelong friendships.
Students also have the opportunity to take part in a full Sport enrichment programme and talented sports performers will have the opportunity to join our Centre of Sporting Excellence. Our coaches are committed to helping young athletes develop and excel both academically and professionally. Alternatively, students will have opportunities to engage in other cross-college enrichment clubs, including access to state-of-the-art Gym, F1 in school, Debate Club, Dungeons and Dragons, Animal Club, Chess Club and much more.
What can this course lead on to?
The majority of our student’s progress onto BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Public Services or BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate Level 2 in Sport that will allow students to progress to Level 3 in the long term.
Alternative students apply for the emergency services, armed forces or to seek employment within leisure industry within the UK or abroad.
Any additional costs?
Students will be expected to purchase the course kit package and make a contribution to trips and visits that are organised to support curriculum delivery.
