What is this course about?
This course is extremely popular with much emphasis on practical work. As an introductory level course it equips you with the practical skills and knowledge to form a solid foundation in Animal Care. You will study Practical Animal Health, Introduction to Biology Health, Animal Care Work Placement, Animal Welfare, Animal Behaviour Assessment and Safe Handling, and Feeding, Accommodating and Moving Animals.

Entry Requirements:
5 GCSE Grades at 9 – 3 including a Grade 3 in English Language, Science and Maths

What will this course lead to?
Students who achieve a Merit or above grade can progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management. Alternatively, you might wish to secure employment in one of the following areas:
• Pet store or kennels/cattery manager
• Trainee veterinary nurse/animal care technician
• Animal rescue centre staff
• Guide dog trainer
• Trainee zookeeper

• Animal Care room including NEW Extended reptile, amphibian, invertebrate, fish and exotic mammal enclosures
• Goat stables and paddock
• External Animal Hub for hens, rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets with adjoining exercise paddocks for rabbits and guinea pigs

Any additional costs?
There are costs associated with educational visits to local attractions, specialist animal centres & residential trips. You will always be given advance warning of these. You are also required to purchase an Animal Management uniform which you will wear during any practical activity.
