In order to achieve the best results and progression opportunities to university or employment, students on vocational courses study one programme, which will cover all aspects of their chosen industry.
BTEC programmes are a mixture of classroom and project study relating to the chosen industry, and students will be assessed by completing assignments, group projects and exams.
The level of course you start on will depend on your GCSE results.
- Level 3 – Five for more GCSEs at grade A*-C including English Language or equivalent GCSE numerical grade
- Level 2 – Four or more GCSEs at grade A*-D including English Language or equivalent GCSE numerical grade
- Level 1 – Four or more GCSEs at grade A*-E including English Language or equivalent GCSE numerical grade
Higher grades in specific subjects are required in certain subjects. You can find the individual entry requirements for each course within the course information on the College website or by speaking to our Admissions Team who will advise you at your interview.
In exceptional circumstances, students may be able to study a relevant A Level alongside their BTEC programme. This can be discussed at your College interview.
|Applied Science and Animal Management|
Students studying these subjects benefit from being part of a Centre of Excellence. This means that they will be taught by some of the best teachers in the country, in state of the art science labs and modern facilities and will also have access to the new IDEA Centre. Our extra-curricular activities support and enhance future applications to the most prestigious universities.
Students can take part in our Tomorrow’s Doctors Professional Studies Programme, enter competitions, be part of prestigious national Science programmes, be inspired by leading industry experts and visit external research labs and top universities such as Cambridge, Oxford and Manchester.
Students studying on the business courses at Cronton Sixth Form will take part in lectures with guests including ‘Dragons’ Den’ winners and finalists from ‘The Apprentice’. They will also have the opportunity to go on trips to high profile organisations including to the Houses of Parliament and Jaguar Land Rover.
Over the last year students have taken part in national competitions including the National Student Investor Challenge, the ‘Make Your Mark’ competition and have also completed prestigious placements with local MPs and international businesses including Evolution.
|Computing and IT|
Students studying on the IT and computing courses at Cronton Sixth Form will have the opportunity to access the new IDEA Centre which will be home to brand new state of the art IT suites. The College is an Adobe accredited centre and a Microsoft and CISCO Academy.
During your course you will have the chance to experience industry workshops and trips including a visit to the National Videogame Arcade for a workshop with an industry professional and also crack codes and ciphers at Bletchley Park.
|Centre of Sporting Excellence|
Students studying sport at Cronton will be part of a Centre for Sporting Excellence and will have access to the fitness suites in the new IDEA Centre. Our coaches are committed to helping young athletes develop and excel both academically and professionally.
Our extensive elite sporting opportunities include individual coaching, prestigious and high profile sporting partnerships, scholarships, links with governing bodies and an international ski trip. The focus is on encouraging and supporting every student in maximising their performance in their chosen sport.
|Cronton School of Art|
Students studying at the Cronton School of Art will be inspired by our practicing artists/tutors to develop and nurture their own creative talents. They will benefit from a wide range of experiences provided through our partnerships with leading industry experts.
These include international trips to New York, Berlin and Paris, national competitions, prestigious exhibition opportunities at the Sotheby’s Gallery in London, master classes and key note events at Tate Liverpool and a High Profile Annual Exhibition aptly called Inspired.
|Health and Social Care, Nursing, Early Years and Education|
Students studying Health and Social Care or Early Years Education will gain both theoretical knowledge and invaluable practical experience to enable them to progress to employment or further education in their chosen sector. Health and Social Care students will benefit from our new clinical practice ward with the latest equipment and our innovative partnerships in the Health Sector allow us to access prestigious work placements within Warrington Hospital, the NHS and Community Integrated Care (CIC).
Early Years Education students will gain work experience in primary schools and nurseries enabling the application of their classroom learning and also have the opportunity to experience educational trips abroad.
Students studying Engineering will benefit from being taught by qualified engineers both in the classroom and in our state of the art specialist engineering labs and facilities including the new IDEA Centre. They will enjoy trips to national industry exhibitions and high profile employers as well as lectures from visiting guest speakers.
The opportunity to compete nationally stretches our students and helps them build a strong portfolio of learning to support their applications to prestigious universities and employment opportunities beyond college. Students will also be able to take part in our exciting new Tomorrow’s Engineers Professional Studies Programme.
Students studying Performing Arts will become part of our Centre of Excellence. As such, they will be taught by some of the best teaching staff in the country and benefit from a wide range of extra-curricular activities to support their onward applications to the country’s most prestigious institutions.
Students will develop their talents and professional skills by enjoying our wide range of experiences including; international trips, being part of industry standard performances, performing at professional venues, high profile patrons and professional links, free music tuition and nationally recognised LAMDA qualifications.
Students studying Uniformed Services will take part in residential and non-residential trips including a five day army insight course and a variety of both land and water based activities. They will benefit from a three day expedition in the UK and also from personal fitness training and team sports delivered within our Centre of Sporting Excellence.
Students will experience a wide variety of volunteering opportunities and our invaluable links with local and national uniformed services. Visits from guest speakers will enhance their learning and future career opportunities.
