After February half term the number 49 bus will pick up at some stops slightly earlier of a morning.
This is in response to increased traffic on the route which is causing the bus to arrive at College late.
This will be in place for the remainder of the academic year.

Free Bus Pass at Cronton Sixth Form College Widnes

Cronton Sixth Form College is situated on the A5080 Cronton Lane between the village of Cronton and Farnworth.


At Cronton Sixth Form College we aim to ensure that your travel journey to college is a smooth one by providing you with:

  • A FREE Halton Transport bus pass up to £540 per year for every student who lives more than 1.5 miles away from college which you can also use in the evenings and at weekends
  • Extensive dedicated Halton Transport buses throughout the region

In partnership with Halton Transport, the college provides a number of college bus routes operating twice a day (at the beginning and the end of the college day) throughout the student catchment area.

Students can also use the free bus pass on a number of other Halton Transport routes to and from college. The free Halton bus pass can be used by students for travel on Halton Transport in the evenings and at weekends during term time.

Halton Transport buses: there are over 25 Halton Transport bus routes from Runcorn, Widnes, Knowsley, Huyton, Liverpool, St Helens and Warrington. Students may use their free Halton Transport bus pass on any of these services.

Arriva buses: Arriva are a national bus company that operate routes all over the north west of England. Arriva are offering a ‘Scholars’ bus pass which can be purchased online for £215 annually. This works out at just over £5 per week.

My Ticket daily bus pass: students can purchase a daily pass called a ‘My Ticket’ for £2.20 and use any bus with any provider all day across Halton, Merseyside and St Helens. This ticket needs to be purchased on the day on the bus.

The following bus timetables include both College buses and public transport buses. All of the buses included are eligible for a FREE bus pass – which is indicated on the timetable.

By Train:

Cronton Sixth Form College is a ten minute walk from Widnes Station on the Liverpool to Warrington line. (For further information on train times and fares please call the National Rail enquiry line on 08457 48 49 50.)

By Car:

From M62

  • Exit the M62 at junction 6
  • At the roundabout join the A5080 towards Cronton
  • Straight ahead at the traffic lights, you will find us on the right.

From M56

  • Exit the M56 at junction 12 Take the A557 following signs for The Bridge
  • Take the 2nd slip road signposted Widnes, follow signs for Riverside College Kingsway
  • Continue up Kingsway until roundabout, take 1st exit and follow signs for Riverside College Cronton.
